Read on to find out&#8230;<\/h4>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> Let\u2019s start with the basics: <strong>glass is entirely, endlessly recyclable<\/strong>.\u00a0 That means that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/ecology\/glass-endless-lives-singing-bottles\/\">there\u2019s no limit to how many times it can be recycled without losing any of its original qualities<\/a>. Your great-great-great grandchildren could be pouring water from the same material which you once used for olive oil. How cool is that?<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. <\/strong>Recycling is <strong>an easy way to boost your green credentials<\/strong>: each time a bottle or jar is recycled into new containers, energy and raw materials are saved and less CO2 is emitted than if we were to make a glass bottle from scratch. And that\u2019s not all: by making recycling a habit, you\u2019re helping to keep the environment clean by making sure your household waste doesn\u2019t end up polluting nature or piling up in landfill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Thanks to glass recycling, <strong>over 12 million tons of raw materials <\/strong>are saved every year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. <\/strong>Here in Europe, we\u2019re none too shabby at recycling: <a href=\"https:\/\/feve.org\/record-collection-of-glass-containers-for-recycling-hits-76-in-the-eu\/\">latest figures show<\/a> that <strong>7 in every 10 bottles are collected for recycling, <\/strong>thanks to a curbside infrastructure system which sees thousands of bottle banks installed in supermarket car parks and street corners across the continent<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/container-4515367_1280.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12645 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/container-4515367_1280-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"449\" height=\"299\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Even better, <strong>most\u00a0of these bottles close the loop<\/strong> as they go straight back into a bottle-to-bottle production system. While this shows that we\u2019re getting there, there\u2019s still a way to go before we hit 100% recycling across Europe!<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. <\/strong>Start by separating: before dropping them in the bottle bank, <strong>it\u2019s helpful to separate glass according to whether it\u2019s coloured or white glass <\/strong>so that it can be used to make new glass packaging of the same colour. Don&#8217;t forget to also <strong>separate glass from other accessories, like corks and caps<\/strong>. Thanks to your help in bringing it back, the used glass will become an important resource for new production.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/photo-1554208873-4292cf6c952d.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12662 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/photo-1554208873-4292cf6c952d-300x199.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"445\" height=\"295\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. <\/strong>Likewise, <strong>just because it\u2019s made from glass doesn\u2019t mean it belongs in the bottle bank<\/strong>. For example, some glass containers used for cooking, old glass tableware, objects made from crystal and mirrors can\u2019t be recycled along with regular glass packaging, as they contain ingredients that can spoil the quality of the whole recycled glass batch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. <\/strong>When it comes to glass, you might know that you can recycle your jars of pasta, empty beer bottles and olive oil containers \u2013 but did you know that your <strong>perfume and cosmetics containers are also recyclable,<\/strong> if they come in glass containers? All glass flacons for perfumes, cosmetics and medicines can all be recycled in the bottle bank with regular glass bottles and jars.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-photo-672051.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12675 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.friendsofglass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-photo-672051-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"460\" height=\"306\" \/><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> You may have seen the \u2018Green Dot\u2019 logo below on a number of everyday packaging items\u2026 but do you know what it really means? It doesn\u2019t necessarily mean the packaging can be recycled \u2013 it reflects the fact that <strong>the company has paid into a pan-European recycling and recovery fund<\/strong>.
